The tract of about 63.32 acres called Shedfield Common in the parish of Shedfield, Hampshire was registered with Shedfield Parish Council in 1967. Shedfield Parish Council purchased the Common on 3 July 1976. Shedfield Common is subject to the provisions of the Law of Property Act 1925 section 193 . The common is a fantastic area for everyone to enjoy and its purpose is for fresh air and exercise. Shedfield Parish Council are working hard to maintain and restore the natural habitat.
Can we remind you that parking and driving on the common is prohibited. The use of motorbikes, metal detectors, remote control vehicles, aircraft, digging of the land, removal of vegetation and the depositing of garden waste and general rubbish are also prohibited.
On Shedfield Common we have the following footpaths as a right of way shown in red : FP nos, 7,11,18,19,20. The 1permissive paths granted are shown in blue on the map below.
The common areas are managed by Shedfield Parish Council who are following a specialised management plan following expert professional advice. We employ a Heathland Management contractor who ensures that the work is completed to an agreed schedule. Many areas are now showing fantastic recovery and the heather, natural habitat, including reptiles, wild animals and orchids are thriving. Our Annual Management plan can be found here.
We are supported by the Friends of Shedfield Common and Hampshire Conservation Volunteers who offer their time for free on a regular basis. They help with many varied jobs including the clear and tidy of areas, planting and scraping, litter picking and checking our pathways.
Please be aware that some unauthorised footpaths are being restored back to heather. By using the designated rights of way or permissive paths, the heather will be able to sprout and grow. These areas have been marked by signs saying 'conservation area'.
1 Permissive paths are those that do not legally carry public rights of access. You are able to use them because the landowner has chosen to grant access to the public. If the landowner chooses to withdraw permission then there is nothing that can legally be done to force the landowner to change their mind.

A regular bird survey is underway on the common. Do look out for the results which will be shared on our webiste welcome page in the latest news section and also published in Shedfield Parish Magazine.
HIWARG - Hampshire and Isle of Wight Amphibian and Reptile Group are conducting a survey on Shedfield Common for reptiles. A number of roofing tiles or felts have been placed out of the way but in sunshine. The reptiles are attracted to the warmth of the tiles and also hide under them from predators. They are surveyed once a month and the results are on the https://www.arguk.org/ Amphibian and Reptile Group of UK.
